Eric Tinkler is buoyed ahead of the new DStv Premiership season as his Cape Town City squad starts to take shape.
The former Citizens boss made his return to the club following the departure of Jan Olde Riekerink in May.
City have already captured Darren Keet, Bongani Mpandle, Relebogile Mokhuoane, Patrick Fisher. Nathan Idumba Fasika and Khanyisa Mayo to supplement the side that ended last season in a disappointing seventh place.
Reflecting on the state of his team, Tinkler said on SuperSport: “[Nathan] Fasike is a very tall centre-back, but technically gifted and with good speed to go with his aerial ability. That has strengthened our defensive area.
“We also signed Patrick Fisher, who is a young right wing-back that has so much potential. He had a very good season with Cape Town Spurs in the NFD. He is a fantastic player for the future.
“We have also got in Khanyiso Mayo, so we have bolstered our wing positions. He can play on the right or the left. He is another young player, which is what we have been trying to do – bring in some young, talented players for the future.”
Tinkler added that with the return of national team players and the completion of a number of friendly matches, that he is happy with their preparations going into the new campaign.
“We got Justin Shonga back from the Zambia national team, then Fagrie Lakay and Abbubkaer Mobara came back from the Olympic team,” he said.
“We then went on a team-building camp [in Limpopo] to focus on game-model, club culture and objectives for the up-coming season.
“We played friendlies against the Venda Football Academy, Marumo Gallants and Mamelodi Sundowns, and I was very happy with the whole trip.
“We are moving in the right direction and we want to start [the season] on a positive note.”
