SuperSport United midfielder Grant Margeman will be sidelined for a significant portion of the 2024/25 Betway PSL season after suffering an ACL tear in a friendly match against Kaizer Chiefs.
The 26-year-old’s injury is a major blow to Gavin Hunt’s side, as he had become a key player since joining the club permanently from Mamelodi Sundowns last year.
Margeman, who impressed in the previous campaign, earned multiple “Man of the Match” awards and was even included in Hugo Broos’ preliminary squad for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations. Although he was part of the Bafana Bafana squad for matches against Namibia and the DRC, he was ultimately not selected for the final AFCON team.
The former Cape Town Spurs midfielder had played 37 matches across all competitions, scoring once in a 2-1 victory over Stellenbosch FC. Margeman recently underwent successful surgery and shared a post on social media expressing his determination to recover.
The midfielder now faces a lengthy rehabilitation process as SuperSport United must adapt to life without one of their standout performers for the majority of the season.
