SUPERSPORT UNITED READY TO BATTLE FOR CAF SPOT AGAINST CAPE TOWN CITY

Tshwane side SuperSport United are set to host Cape Town City on Friday, in the first DStv Premiership fixture since the break for the recent 2023 AFCON.

Matsatsantsa currently find themselves in third position on the DStv Premiership table, with their next opponents Stellies only three points behind them in fourth position but with a game in hand.

The two teams have faced each other on nine occassions in league matches, with SuperSport United dominating with four wins and drawing four times, with the Western Cape side managing their only win against United back in their first top-flight season in 2020.

Both sides should have most of their players available to play. Only midfielder Jayden Adams (Stellenbosch), defender Siyanda Xulu and goalkeeper Ricardo Goss (SuperSport United) were selected for the 2023 AFCON tournament for the respective national teams but played 255 minutes collectively.

SuperSport United will be without defender Thalente Mbatha, who joined Orlando Pirates during the January transfer window, whilst Stellenbosch confirmed that goalkeeper Sage Stephens has extended his stay with the club.

Stellies will be looking to avenge their first round 2-1 defeat at home, a match which United came from behind to win after falling behind to a Jayden Adams goal.

Soccer fans can expect an entertaining match with goals with Bradley Grobler (United) and  Iqraam Rayners (Stellenbosch) both hoping to kick-on with their goalscoring form prior to the 2023 AFCON break.

The Western Cape team will also be buoyed by their recent Carling Cup victory, a first trophy in the top-flight league for the club whilst Matsatsantsa will be looking to bounce back from thier surprise 3-1 loss to Richards Bay prior to the break, a defeat that stopped a three match winning streak.

The teams will clash at the Lucas Moripe Stadium in Atteridgeville tomorrow.

Kick-off is at 19h00.
