ABSA Premiership | Sunday 01 December | Loftus Stadium | 15:30
To Win (90mins)
Sundowns 19/20
Draw 22/10
Swallows 26/10
Two old-timers of top flight football in South Africa, Downs and Swallows, should have a lot more trophies in their cabinets than what’s lying around currently.
At this stage though, they’re sitting one and two in the league, something to excite both sets of faithfuls.
This contest has always been to and fro, despite Sundowns being considered the better side out of the two.
Both sides have only played two games this month, with a postponement or two affecting their schedules.
Both strike forces are also in similar form, with Cuthbert Malajila leading the way for Downs, whilst Swallows have reaped success this season from Manqele, Nomvethe and Chabangu.
With all this considered, this will be the game of the weekend.
After playing each other 21 times in the league previously, they have both come away with the exact same points tally.
One thing to note is that Swallows love scoring late. In fact, almost half their goals this season have come in the final fifteen minutes.
This means Downs are going to need to score early, with a potential buffer required in case of a late onslaught from the Dube Birds.
The odds tell a different story, which may be good for the punters.
Betting Prediction: DRAW 22/10
The last time Sundowns won this fixture was August 2011, so if form is anything to go by, Swallows at 26/10 or the draw at 22/10 both look promising. Definitely consider either option in bets this weekend. Enjoy the game, but I’m going for a draw.
