Moses Mabhida Stadium has been confirmed as the venue for the 2026 MTN8 final between Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates on 10 October. on 10 October.
The PSL is due to conduct the final draw on Monday evening, determining the home-and-away designation for the showpiece. However, Moses Mabhida is understood to have been earmarked to stage the match, which would bring the competition’s biggest domestic fixture back to Durban.
If confirmed, it would be the 10th MTN8 final hosted by the iconic stadium, extending its record as the most-used venue in the tournament’s history.
The potential return comes after a period of refurbishment at the 2010 Fifa World Cup venue. Work began in 2024 as part of a broader rehabilitation project estimated by eThekwini Municipality to have cost R284m, while the playing surface has also undergone restoration aimed at returning the stadium to international standards.
Moses Mabhida has had a relatively quiet start to the 2026-27 season and has not featured regularly on the domestic football calendar. Its only competitive fixture so far came on 6 September, when Durban City hosted Burundi’s Rukinzo in the CAF Confederation Cup.

That match was significant because Moses Mabhida was then the only KwaZulu-Natal venue approved for CAF competition.
It could now provide the stage for a final with considerable significance for both clubs.
Pirates reached the decider after overcoming Sekhukhune United in their semi-final, while Sundowns advanced following a dramatic tie against Golden Arrows.
Pirates are chasing an unprecedented fifth consecutive MTN8 title and have established a remarkable hold over the competition in recent seasons. Sundowns, meanwhile, will attempt to end that run and add another trophy to their collection.
The PSL’s final draw will settle the formal home designation, but Moses Mabhida is understood to be the leading venue for what promises to be one of the season’s biggest domestic fixtures.
