Iqraam Rayners kicked off his Mamelodi Sundowns career with two goals in his first two matches, impressing in the Tshwane Derby against SuperSport United.
The Brazilians began their league title defence with a solid 2-0 victory last Tuesday, featuring goals from Rayners and Lucas Ribeiro Costa.
The 28-year-old’s goal was particularly significant, as it marked his second in just three appearances since joining from Stellenbosch FC in a surprising high-profile move.
Last season, Rayners had an outstanding campaign with 17 goals and eight assists, attracting attention from numerous clubs both domestically and internationally.
Sundowns acted swiftly to secure him by triggering his release clause, a decision that seems to be paying off given his impressive start.
Reflecting on his league debut, Rayners expressed gratitude towards the Masandawana supporters.
“In the first half, it was a bit difficult for us. I knew they would open up,” he explained.
“My goal came from a great play; I took the ball from Themba [Zwane] and placed it perfectly.”
With two goals already, he added, “I’m happy to be here at Mamelodi Sundowns. The supporters really make me feel loved.”
