Stellenbosch FC coach Steve Barker has allayed fears over Fawaaz Basadien‘s injury, suggesting that the defender should be fit for their MTN8 semifinal against Mamelodi Sundowns.
The rumored Kaizer Chiefs target was forced off early in the second leg of their CAF Confederation Cup match against Nsingizini Hotspurs due to an ankle injury. However, Barker believes it’s a minor issue and expects Basadien to be available for the crucial clash against Sundowns.
During the press conference at the Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday, Barker said,
I haven’t had a chance to assess the full extent of the injury yet, but it appears to be a contusion, and it’s obviously painful,”
“However, I believe he will be available for the Sundowns match.”
The left-back has been a vital part of Stellenbosch’s success this season, contributing goals and assists. His potential return would be a significant boost for the team as they prepare to face the reigning league champions.
The first leg of the MTN8 semifinal will take place at Lucas Moripe Stadium on Wednesday, followed by the return leg at Moses Mabhida Stadium on Sunday.
