The Buccaneers have made a slow start to their Absa Premiership campaign and are down in ninth position, 15 points adrift of league leaders Kaizer Chiefs.

Sandilands is eager to see the Soweto giants turn their season around but believes the players first need to concentrate on the right things instead of getting bogged down by individual egos.

“I think the right mindset for us as players at Pirates right now is that it’s about the team, and not about individuals,” said Sandilands, as quoted by Kickoff.

“It has to be [like that] at an institution the size of Pirates; it has to be about the badge. So, I think everybody’s just trying to pull their weight.

“And I know that, the coach mentioned it, the squad has a lot of quality players that can come in and perform, it doesn’t matter who you are.

“The mindset is that the team needs to win and do well, and obviously for every player there is a desire to play, [but] the focus is on the team and trying to get the club in a good position.

“We know we haven’t really started well; we know there’s a lot of stuff about our game that needs to improve. So, the focus even from my side is not an individual one but more of the collective.”

Pirates’ next league encounter will be at home against Polokwane City on 26 November.
