Morena Ramoreboli is poised to depart Jwaneng Galaxy, with the South African coach’s negotiations to become the permanent head coach of the Botswana national team progressing smoothly.
Ramoreboli, who guided the Zebras to their second-ever Africa Cup of Nations finals, enjoyed significant success during his tenure at Galaxy, leading the club to two league titles and two appearances in the CAF Champions League group stage.
It remains unclear whether Ramoreboli will coach Galaxy in their upcoming match against Orapa United on Wednesday. According to FarPost, the club has already begun the search for his successor, aiming for a smooth transition.
The 43-year-old took over as interim coach of the Botswana national team in October 2024 following the resignation of Didier Gomes da Rosa. Facing a daunting qualification campaign, Ramoreboli masterfully guided the team to crucial draws against Mauritania and Egypt, securing their place in the 2025 AFCON finals.
Following this achievement, the Botswana Football Association (BFA) is finalizing a contract to appoint him as the permanent head coach of the Zebras. In a recent interview with SuperSport, Ramoreboli hinted at discussions with Galaxy’s management, who expressed their support for his potential move.
“I had several meetings with my bosses [Jwaneng Galaxy],” he told SuperSport. “And to some extent, they were saying they would be very happy to see me leaving, whether to go to the national team or to go to a club that is bigger than them and the club that will take care of the talent that I have.
“But at the same time, they are also saying it should be for the right reasons. They have always been supportive of me. And this is not about being loyal but about being honest about situations…”
Earlier this year, Ramoreboli signed a new contract with Galaxy, amid offers from PSL outfits Sekhukhune United and Marumo Gallants, as well as Ugandan side Vipers.
