Harry Redknapp has laid into the Tottenham players as he believes they are responsible for Mauricio Pochettino getting the sack.
Spurs chairman Daniel Levy took the decision to axe Pochettino following a poor run of form that resulted in the club slipping to 14th in the Premier League.
Redknapp, who was in charge of Tottenham himself from 2008 to 2012, believes the fear of failing to qualify for the Champions League this season was the reason behind Levy’s decision.
However, he also feels the Tottenham players are also to blame following some sub-standard performances this season. Claiming the likes of Harry Kane, Dele Alli, Lucas Moura and Son Heung-min have really let their manager down.
“They’re massively under-achieving at the minute,” Redknapp said. “They [the board] have had a look and thought we aren’t going anywhere
“They’ve pulled the panic button and decided to make the change. The players have got him the sack, they’ve not performed well enough. If they all loved him so much, perhaps they should have done a little bit better.”
Redknapp also believes that Levy will have a replacement lined up, and speaking from experience, says they will have already spoken to the man they want.
The former Spurs boss says the club wanted Carlo Ancelotti before he was axed back in 2012, and spoke to the Italian about the job.
Redknapp has put Ancelotti, currently in charge of Italian side Napoli, back in the frame, but also thinks Jose Mourinho could be the man Levy and co will go with.
It will not be long before Pochettino is back in work either and during his interview with Sky Sports, Redknapp suggested he came very close to taking the Manchester United job at one point.
Bayern Munich, Real Madrid and Barcelona could all be in the hunt for a new boss soon and Pochettino will be in the frame.
