PSL PLAY-OFFS: “This was a second chance to redeem ourselves as a club” – Richards Bay coach Vusumuzi Vilakazi reflect on retaining the club’s top-flight status

Richards Bay coach Vusumuzi Vilakazi praised the confidence of his players as they retained their DStv Premiership status.

The Natal Rich Boys only needed a point from their final relegation/promotion play-off clash with Baroka but emerged with a 4-0 win.

Somila Ntsundwana opened the scoring at the King Zwelithini Stadium on 37 minutes ahead of a Sanele Barns strike two minutes before the half-time break.

Ntsundwana was on target again with 62 minutes on the clock and Lwandile Mabuya rounded off the scoring with his goal five minutes from time.

Speaking after the game, a delighted Vilakazi hailed his players as well as Bay chairman Jomo Biyela.

Vilakazi told SABC Sport: “We had to have the frame of mind to go to the play-offs and fight.

“This was a second chance to redeem ourselves as a club.

“Above everything I have to thank the chairman for entrusting me with this huge responsibility. With the limited experience I have, to put me in this situation and to become victorious is wonderful and I think it will have a huge impact on my coaching career.

“I must (thank) the players, you can’t do anything if the players are not buying into your ideas. Their confidence was there until the end.”
