Mamelodi Sundowns have confirmed the departure of veteran striker Peter Shalulile after deciding not to renew his contract, ending a successful six-year spell at the club.
The Namibian international found opportunities increasingly limited last season and slipped down the pecking order following the arrival of Brayan Leon. Although Sundowns head coach Miguel Cardoso spoke positively about Shalulile in public, he appeared to favour other attacking options in key fixtures.
Shalulile’s future had been the subject of growing speculation even before the 2025/26 campaign got underway, with a proposed move to Tunisian giants Esperance collapsing earlier in the year.
According to reports, Sundowns have now decided against activating the one-year extension clause in his contract, which expired at the end of June.

Sources close to the player suggest Shalulile had already accepted that his time at Chloorkop was nearing its conclusion as his minutes continued to diminish.
“You could tell he was never going to stay beyond last season,” one source said. “He remained professional throughout, but he couldn’t win his place back.”
“He felt he should have played more, but Leon was in good form and the coach preferred him in the big matches.”
Shalulile departs having built a strong reputation for consistency and goalscoring at domestic and continental level.
While his next destination has not yet been confirmed, several clubs in South Africa and elsewhere in Africa are believed to have registered interest, with a resolution to his future expected in the near term.
