Orlando Pirates are reportedly set to appoint Mxolisi Mngomezulu as their new assistant coach following Mandla Ncikazi’s departure to Golden Arrows, according to reports.

Ncikazi left the Buccaneers last week to take charge of Arrows, prompting head coach Abdeslam Ouaddou to request that Mngomezulu be promoted to the technical team.

A source told Phakaaathi that Pirates management had agreed to the coach’s proposal, with an official announcement expected soon.

“Ouaddou holds Mngomezulu in high regard. He recognises his work as a youth coach, and with Pirates having the youngest squad in the league, he believes he can help him,” the source said.

Mngomezulu has worked within Pirates’ first-team setup as a performance analyst and talent scout, developing a reputation for identifying promising young players and helping them make the transition into senior football.

His previous work includes playing a role in the development pathway of Mohau Nkota, Mbekezeli Mbokazi and Simphiwe Selepe, underlining his familiarity with the club’s youth structures.

The coach also holds a CAF A Coaching Licence, which would allow him to occupy a place on the technical bench during Pirates’ CAF Champions League campaign.

Mngomezulu’s anticipated appointment would provide continuity following Ncikazi’s exit, while giving Ouaddou a trusted figure with knowledge of the club’s emerging talent as Pirates pursue domestic and continental honours.
