Amakhosi have seven points from three matches under new head coach Fernando Da Cruz, while Richards Bay are still searching for their first win after collecting two points.

Chiefs opened with a 3-1 victory over Kruger United, followed by a 2-0 win against Sekhukhune United, before drawing 1-1 with Mamelodi Sundowns. Siphesihle Ndlovu assisted Langelihle Phili for Chiefs’ goal against the reigning African champions and Ndlovu has warned his teammates that they cannot afford to relax against Richards Bay.

“It is when we play other teams who are extra motivated to play us that we have to give equal focus as when we play the top teams.”

Richards Bay lost 2-1 to Polokwane City before consecutive 1-1 draws with Chippa United and Durban City. Coach Ronnie Gabriel remains encouraged by his team’s performances despite their lack of victories.

The match was initially scheduled for Moses Mabhida Stadium but has been moved to Princess Magogo Stadium in KwaMashu after work at the larger venue was not completed.

Recent history gives the Natal Rich Boyz plenty of confidence. Richards Bay won the latest meeting in March, while the previous four encounters have been split between the sides.

Chiefs arrive as the form side, but Richards Bay’s recent record in this fixture makes Wednesday’s match a potentially difficult test.

For Amakhosi, maintaining the intensity shown against the league’s biggest opponents will be crucial as they seek three points and another step towards the top of the Betway Premiership.
