Orlando Pirates have bolstered their coaching staff with the addition of former goalkeeper Siyabonga Mpontshane as an assistant Goalkeeper Coach.
The 38-year-old, who spent nine seasons at the club before his departure at the end of last season, will now work alongside current Pirates Goalkeeper Coach Tyron Damons.
Mpontshane’s appointment comes as a surprise following speculation that he might continue his playing career. However, his vast experience and knowledge of the club make him a valuable asset to the Pirates’ goalkeeping department.
His presence was evident at training today, where he joined Damons in overseeing the goalkeeping drills. The session included a number of Pirates’ keepers, such as Sipho Chaine, Melusi Buthelezi, Ethan Visagie, and Siyanbonga Dladla.
As the team prepares for the second leg of their CAF Champions League preliminary round clash against Disciples FC, Mpontshane’s expertise will undoubtedly be crucial
