He might have grown up being a fan of Orlando Pirates, but Maritzburg United striker Judas Moseamedi has backed Kaizer Chiefs in this weekend’s Soweto Derby.
The 26-year-old has had some success against Amakhosi at the Team of Choice and at Cape Town City previously, but he believes they deserve to win this season’s Absa Premiership title.
This even though he grew up supporting their bitter rivals Pirates before.
“I actually grew up supporting Orlando Pirates but you know ispani, ispani (a job is a job),” he told the media.
“So, when I’m inside the field of play, I have to deliver for the club (Maritzburg) because they gave me an opportunity when nobody wanted me.
“They believed in me and gave me the opportunity to come to play and I did just that.”
Ernst Middendorp’s side has seen their lead at the top of the table be reduced to four points with 10 games to go, but lanky striker believes they deserve to win the title.
“I’ll be supporting Chiefs this weekend because they’ve worked really hard to be where they are [top of the log]. I believe they deserve to win the league. They have been playing very well,” added Moseamedi.
Chiefs’ last league title was won in 2015.
