Defending champions Orlando Pirates will be looking to win their fifth consecutive MTN8 title following their treble winning 2025/26 campaign and also equalling rivals Kaizer Chiefs tally of 15 titles in the tournament.
The PSL has announced the match details for the respective opening fixtures with AmaBhakaniya hosting 2025/26 Nedbank Cup winners Durban City at the Orlando Amstel Arena on Saturday at 15h00.
Later that day, Mamelodi Sundowns kick-off their 2026/27 campaign against Polokwane City at the Lucas Moripe Stadium as they try win their first MTN8 trophy since 2021, the last time another PSL team besides than the Buccaneers won the competition.
On Sunday, last season’s fourth placed team in the league AmaZulu host Sekhukhune United at Chatsworth Stadium in the afternoon fixture [15h00] with both sides having never won the tournament, before Kaizer Chiefs host Golden Arrows at the FNB Stadium at 18h00.
Amakhosi have not won the MTN8 since their double winning season under Scotsman Stuart Baxter in the 2014/15 campaign and will have their work cut out against 2009/10 winners Abafana Bes’thende.
