Mamelodi Sundowns took a commanding 4-0 first leg against Mbabane Swallows after the first leg of the CAF Champions League second preliminary round.
Mamelodi Sundowns made a strong statement in their CAF Champions League opener, cruising to a 4-0 victory over Mbabane Swallows. The South African giants showcased their dominance with a dominant performance.
Several key players made their debuts for the club, including Iqraam Rayners and Asekho Tiwani. The return of Ronwen Williams, Lebohang Maboe, and Rivaldo Coetzee further bolstered Sundowns’ lineup.
The home side wasted no time taking control of the match. Teenage sensation Tiwani won a penalty early on, which was calmly converted by Lucas Ribeiro.
Sundowns continued to press forward, with Arthur Sales forcing a good save from the Swallows goalkeeper. Mosa Lebusa then doubled the lead with a powerful header from a corner kick.
Despite losing Sales to injury, Sundowns maintained their momentum. Rayners made an immediate impact for his new club, scoring a goal to extend the lead to 3-0 at halftime.
Ribeiro added another goal in the second half with a stunning solo effort. While Sundowns didn’t score again, their 4-0 advantage puts them in a strong position heading into the second leg.
