Mamelodi Sundowns charged for breaking law 16.3.2

Mamelodi Sundowns have been charged by the Premier Soccer League for fielding the ineligible Wayne Arendse in a league match against Wits last year.

Arendse was not a part of the original 18-man squad to take on the Clever Boys last October and was only roped in at the last minute when Thapelo Morena picked up an injury during the warm-up.

However, this reportedly contravenes Rule 16.3.2 of the NSL Handbook which states that no player can be added to a team-sheet that had already been submitted.

The PSL said in a statement: “Sundowns have been charged with contravening Rule 16.3.2 of the NSL Handbook after they allegedly fielded an ineligible player, Wayne Arendse, against Bidvest Wits during their Absa Premiership fixture on 07 October 2018.

“No player may be added to the team sheet who was not listed on the team sheet that was submitted.”

The Brazilians are now to appear before a disciplinary committee on Wednesday, 06 February 2019, to learn of their fate. It is unclear what sanctions the club could face.
