Maduka: We still have a chance

Royal AM head coach John Maduka says there is still a chance to claim CAF Champions League’s football despite their 3-2 loss to Mamelodi Sundowns on Monday.

Gaston Sirino opened the scoring at TUKS Stadium on 13 minutes ahead of a 48th minute Thabiso Kutumela strike, while Peter Shalulile seemingly put the game beyond doubt when he netted just past the hour mark.

Sepana Letsoalo (69′) and Mokete Mogaila (76′) were both on target for the hosts in the second half, but it wasn’t enough to avoid defeat.

Royal AM ended the evening in fifth place on the DStv Premiership standings with 46 points from 29 games, just three adrift of Cape Town City in second and with a better goal-difference.

Their final match of the season is at home to Orlando Pirates on Friday.

Maduka told SuperSport: “We still have a chance, this what God provided for us, this game of course we wanted to win. In as much as we wanted to win it didn’t happen, we have another chance.

“We must make sure we grab with both hands, we’re going to play against another very difficult team, it’s not going to be easy, it’s very important for us to play throughout the match.

“We don’t play in moments because if you look at this game first-half we did not play, second-half after we conceded the third goal that’s when we looked like now we can begin to play.

“You know we must start the game well and finish it strongly, we know we can finish the game strong, so we have to improve is to start the game well.”
