Galaxy are the current holders of the Nedbank Cup after a shock victory over Kaizer Chiefs in last season’s final but have already been knocked out of the competition this campaign after a 3-0 loss to Chippa United.

The defeat to the Chilli Boys, coupled with a string of poor results in the league, saw Dan Malisela resign as head coach and Galaxy owner Tim Sukazi has confirmed that former Bafana striker Khenyeza has been roped in.

Khenyeza has signed a two-year contract and will start work at his club later this week.

Sukazi explained in an interview with Independent Media: “Yes, it is true that Khenyeza is now our head coach.

“We’ve given him two seasons. He will start working at the club on Tuesday.

“He is a young coach. Khenyeza is a student of the game. He has the energy that we need at TS Galaxy. He is very vibrant.

“TS Galaxy is a project. This is a national project and that will suit Khenyeza. It is easy to work with a young coach.”

The 37-year-old Khenyeza only retired from playing last season and was recruited as an assistant coach by Muhsin Ertugral when the Turkish mentor was at Maritzburg United.

Khenyeza though parted company with the Team of Choice when Ertugral was sacked and the former Chiefs forward rejoined Usuthu on the technical staff under coach Cavin Johnson and then continued in the role with current mentor Jozef Vukusic.
