Mabaso relishing chance of Champions League football

Recent Orlando Pirates recruit Abel Mabaso says he is looking forward to the challenge of playing in the CAF Champions League next season for Bucs.

The Sea Robbers finished in second place in the previous campaign and have qualified for Africa’s most prestigious club competition.

They last took part in the tournament in 2013 where they lost in the final to Egypt’s Al Ahly.

As such, Mabaso, who was signed from Chippa United as one of nine new players brought in, is relishing the prospect of Champions League football for the first time in his career.

He told Kickoff: “Yes, it is something I am looking forward to because you gain a lot of experience from playing in the continental cup.

“It’s an experience I am looking forward to, to compete with other clubs on the continent. It will help me be a better player and a more complete player.

The 24-year-old added he was committed to helping Bucs be a success, saying: “They did exceptionally well last season. I want to see everybody in this team winning the league.

That’s the most important thing for us. They finished second last season, so we need to go higher, which is first place.”
