Former Bafana Bafana and Kaizer Chiefs star, Jabu Pule, is using his influence to combat drug abuse in South African communities.
Inspired by his own personal struggles, Mahlangu is committed to guiding young people away from the pitfalls he once faced.
Earlier this year, Mahlangu joined a group of football legends for the CPC-Diski99 “Stop Drug Abuse” tournament in Bloemfontein. As one of the most talented players to emerge from Chiefs in recent decades, Mahlangu understands the importance of his role in this fight.
“I’m also honoured and would like to thank CPC and Diski 99 for this campaign to ‘Say No To Drugs’, because it’s a campaign that’s close to my heart,” said ‘Shuffle’ as quoted by SABC Sport.
“As we all know my life story, I was a victim of drugs in my life at some point, and a victim of alcohol abuse, so it’s a great initiative.”
Mahlangu’s career was marred by off-field issues, including substance abuse, which hindered his team’s success.
Despite these challenges, he achieved significant milestones, including appearances at the 2000 Olympics and 2002 FIFA World Cup.
Now, as a 43-year-old, Mahlangu is dedicated to using his experiences to inspire positive change.
“I know how drugs can destroy careers, I know how drugs can destroy families, and I know how drugs can destroy friendships, so I’m very happy to be part of this great initiative,” he added.
