"It's good to be back in the team" - Makgopa Eager for Bafana Return

Evidence Makgopa is thrilled to be back in the Bafana Bafana squad after recovering from injury. The 24-year-old Orlando Pirates striker was instrumental in South Africa’s recent Africa Cup of Nations campaign, playing every game as they secured a third-place finish.

Unfortunately, injury sidelined him from crucial World Cup and AFCON qualifiers. However, he has returned to form for the Buccaneers, netting six goals in 13 appearances this season.

As Bafana prepare to face Uganda on Friday, Makgopa expressed his excitement about representing his country once again, highlighting his gratitude for overcoming his injury.

Makgopa said on Soccer Laduma: “I knew it’s going to be tough.

“Whenever you have an injury, it’s tough. It can affect you mentally but you have to be strong.

“I am glad I had a place to start on the bench when I came back because it’s tough to be on the bench at my team, truly speaking.

“I can say I am fortunate I managed to come back.

“I knew that if I can play, maybe I can make my way back to Bafana. It’s good to be back in the team.”

Makgopa added that he hopes to repay the faith shown in him by Bafana boss Hugo Broos for both this match and their final qualifer with South Sudan on Tuesday.

“The only thing I can say is that you don’t want to disappoint such a person who has faith in you,” he said.
