“It is really difficult to get playing time in this group” –  PIRATES COACH JOSE RIVEIRO ON SUPER-SUB KIMVUIDI

Orlando Pirates head coach Jose Riveiro has revealed the tactical shift that unlocked Karim Kimvuidi‘s scoring potential. The 22-year-old midfielder had struggled to make a significant impact in his previous appearances for the Soweto Giants, but his recent goal against Disciples FC marked a turning point.

Riveiro praised Kimvuidi’s versatility and emphasized the importance of seizing opportunities. He hinted at a potential change in the young player’s role for the upcoming season, contingent on his continued development.

It can only help him to use the time he is getting,” said Riveiro. “It is really difficult to get playing time in this group, especially in the position where Karim used to play. He played as one of the three players upfront, one of the three forwards [against Disciples FC].

“He played in a slightly different space than the space he is used to playing in, and that’s what the players need to do whenever they come to the field for 10, 15  to 30 minutes. Show who they are as football players, who they are during the week at training, and how well prepared they are.

The coach elaborated on the tactical change implemented against Disciples FC, where Kimvuidi was deployed in a slightly different attacking position. This shift allowed him to showcase his skills and contribute effectively to the team’s success.

As the new season approaches, Kimvuidi will be eager to build on his recent success and establish himself as a regular starter in the Pirates lineup. His goal against Disciples FC serves as a reminder of his capabilities and the potential he holds for the future.

With a wealth of attacking midfield talent at his disposal, including Lesedi Kapinga, Relebohile Mofokeng, Kabelo Dlamini, Patrick Maswanganyi, Thuso Moleleki, and Selaelo Rasebotja, Riveiro’s decision to experiment with Kimvuidi in a new position proved to be a successful one.
