Is Monaco sensation, Kylian Mbappe, worth the hefty price tag that the French giants value him at? |
With domestic action done and dusted, a new season will shortly get underway. A period of time that football lovers refer to as “silly-season”.
Before the transfer market officially starts, one name has been on the lips of many of Europe’s biggest giants. That name is Kylian Mbappe. Being from France and coming through the ranks of Monaco, the 18-year old – who turns 19 this year – has been likened to Arsenal legend, Thierry Henry.
It’s easy to tell why the comparisons are being made. Mbappe’s ability to pull defenders wide and make dashing runs behind them, before finding the back of the net, even at this age, suggest that the teenager could prove to be even better than Henry in the future.
Monaco, however, have slapped a HUGE price tag on the Frenchman, who recently broke into the national team, indicating that they would only accept offers over the £100m mark. It may seem like crazy money to spend on a ‘boy’, but with the way football is going at the moment, it could prove to be money well spent in the coming years.
Mbappe helped his side to their first Ligue 1 title in 17 years, as well as a semi-final spot in the UEFA Champions League. Real Madrid seem to be front-runners for Mbappe’s signature, and with fellow countryman, Karim Benzema, not hitting the goalscoring figures he would hope for, signing Mbappe would seem like a logical idea. The 18-year-old has burst onto the European stage this season with 26 goals in 44 games, including six in the knockout stage of the Champions League.
It may be a hefty fee to pay at the moment, but this is a future Ballon d’Or winner that we’re talking about. To answer the question, I would say that he is certainly worth breaking the bank for.
