Kaizer Chiefs announced that wingback Paseka Mako fractured his forearm during the 1-1 friendly draw against Al Khalood and has returned from the pre-season tour.

Kaizer Chiefs defender Paseka Mako has left the team’s pre-season camp in Spain and returned to South Africa following an injury setback.

Amakhosi are currently putting in the hard yards under new coach Fernando Da Cruz as they prepare for the upcoming season.

Chiefs have played two training matches against Scottish giants Rangers and Saudi Arabia outfit Al-Kholood, which both have ended in 1-1 draws.

However, the preparation hasn’t been without problems, as Mako suffered a serious injury during the clash against Al-Kholood.

“Defender Paseka Mako has suffered a setback after fracturing his forearm during Tuesday’s friendly match against Al-Kholood,” Chiefs said in a statement.

“Mako has returned to South Africa for medical care and will consult a specialist orthopaedic surgeon for further assessment. He is expected to rejoin his teammates in the coming weeks once his recovery is underway.”

Mako joined Chiefs ahead of last season, making a high-profile switch from Amakhosi’s sworn rivals Orlando Pirates alongside Bucs teammate Thabiso Monyane.

Mako made 18 appearances for the Glamour Boys across all competitions and will be hoping the injury doesn’t hinder his progress at the club.

“On a brighter note, several players who ended last season on the injury list have resumed training and are eager to fight for selection under Da Cruz. The team will be looking to end their tour of Spain on a high against La Liga side Elche CF on Saturday before heading back home,” said Chiefs.

Before Chiefs battle rookies Kruger United in the Betway Premiership, they take on Scottland FC of Zimbabwe in Rustenburg in the Toyota Cup on 26 July.
