The South African tactician officially ended his spell away from the dugout after being unveiled as Kotoko’s new head coach on Friday, taking on his first coaching role outside South Africa.
Tinkler had been without a club since parting ways with Sekhukhune United towards the end of last season, but he now begins a fresh chapter with one of Africa’s most decorated football institutions.
The move sees the former Bafana Bafana midfielder take charge of a club steeped in history and tradition, with the Porcupine Warriors determined to reclaim their status as Ghana’s dominant force while also making their mark in continental competitions.
Speaking after his appointment was confirmed, Tinkler admitted he was thrilled by the opportunity to work at a club of Kotoko’s stature.
“I am honoured and excited to join one of Africa’s most storied football institutions,” Tinkler said in a statement released by the club.

The 54-year-old believes the club’s reputation stretches far beyond Ghana, insisting its rich history and winning culture made the decision an easy one.
“Asante Kotoko’s rich history, passion for success and ambition for development are not hidden in Africa. I feel proud to be associated with this great club at this historical moment.”
Expectations will be high as Tinkler looks to restore Asante Kotoko to the summit of Ghanaian football and help the two-time CAF Champions League winners challenge for major honours once again.
