Hollywoodbets Super League Women: Gameweek 18/19 Preview

Tsunami Queens

The magnificent Banyana Banyana are aiming to defend their COSAFA Cup title this weekend, so we’re reduced to just four matches on the Hollywoodbets Super League card. Tsunami Queens will try to turn their fortunes around when Durban Ladies come to town, while First Touch FC take aim at Thunderbirds Ladies away at the Sisa Dukashe Stadium.

On Sunday, Richmond United entertain in-form Golden Ladies and televised live to the nation will be Bloemfontein Celtic Ladies hosting Ma-Indies Ladies.

Golden Ladies 10/1
Draw 5/1
Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies 1/6
(15:00)
Golden Ladies deserve credit for turning things around, in fact, congratulations are in order for coach Fani Motaung’s team. The Mafikeng-based outfit have won three of their last four games that has helped lift themselves off the foot of the table to currently occupy 12th spot in our 14-team league.

The Brazilians come to town to provide the ultimate test after securing a 2-0 win over Bloemfontein Celtic last Sunday with Morifi Chuene putting in a masterful display.

These sides played each other on the opening day with Sundowns running out 4-0 winners at the Groenkloof Stadium in Pretoria. Golden Ladies have improved greatly but I’m still expecting Masandawana to collect maximum points as Sundowns continue preparations to compete in the inaugural CAF Women’s Champions League in Egypt next month. Banker Sundowns on your multiple.
Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies
Bloemfontein Celtic Ladies 8/10
Draw 22/10
Coal City Wizards 3/1
(15:00)
Bloemfontein Celtic Ladies and Coal City Wizards will lock horns at the Dr. Petrus Molemela Stadium in midweek action with both teams aiming to put together a consistent string of results. Siwelele come into the clash claiming four points from five games since the beginning of September, while Coal City Wizards have also tallied four points in one game fewer than their hosts.

Celtic come off a 2-0 defeat to Sundowns, who were made to work for their victory, while Ma’Wizards shared the spoils in a goalless draw with Durban Ladies. These sides haven’t played each other this season with the reverse tie scheduled to be played in eMalahleni, in five weeks’ time.

This game is evenly balanced and I wouldn’t be surprised to see both sides deadlocked at 0-0 after 90 minutes.

Tsunami Queens 7/2
Draw 23/10
Durban Ladies 7/10
(15:00)
Tsunami Queens will play host to Durban Ladies at the Intabazwe Sports Complex in Harrismith after suffering their 12th straight league defeat. The hosts left the Montshioa Stadium in Mafikeng empty-handed after going down 2-0 to Golden Ladies.

Tsunami Queens have won just twice this season, beating Coal City Wizards on the opening day and edged out a 3-2 win in Durban during the reverse fixture, four months ago. The visiting side weren’t in action last weekend, affording themselves enough time for preparation to remedy the situation that’s seen them drift off the pace.

Durban Ladies haven’t scored in their last five games and this seems to be the perfect opportunity to turn their fortunes around. My money is on the away win.

Durban Ladies in action against TUT Ladies

Thunderbirds Ladies 21/10

Draw 2/1
First Touch FC 12/10
(15:00)
Thunderbirds Ladies (one week) and First Touch FC (two weeks) make their returns to Hollywoodbets Super League action at the Sisa Dukashe Stadium to battle it out with three valuable points on the line. These opponents shared the points in a 1-1 stalemate when they faced off at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane with Thandokazi Maqhinana’s second-half strike cancelling out Priscilla Pesa’s first-half goal.

The Birds are flying high with three victories in their last five games, only suffering defeat to UWC Ladies and Mamelodi Sundowns, while First Touch FC have only won three times in 10 attempts. It’s a tough one to call, if pressed for a prediction, I’ll go with Thunderbirds to edge the encounter by a single goal.

Thunderbirds Ladies
Sunday 10 October
Richmond United 9/10
Draw 22/10
Golden Ladies 26/10
(15:00)
Golden Ladies are on the rise, picking up results to go with their hardworking performances. The test is on as the games are coming through thick and fast for coach Fani Motaung’s troops, this being their third match in a week.

The visitors claimed a 2-0 win over Tsunami Queens last Sunday prior to their midweek clash when the champions Sundowns travelled to Mafikeng. Golden Ladies will now make a 700km journey to the Merino Stadium in De Aar for this Sunday’s showdown.

Richmond United have been inconsistent in their last three encounters which have been high-scoring affairs, however, collecting four points is not good enough with Golden Ladies hot on their heels in the log standings.

On current form, my money is firmly on Golden Ladies at 26/10.

Golden Ladies

Bloemfontein Celtic Ladies 7/10
Draw 23/10
Ma-Indies Ladies 7/2
(15:00)
Goble Park Stadium in Bethlehem is the place to be for Hollywoodbets Super League action on Sunday as Bloemfontein Celtic Ladies and Ma-Indies Ladies battle it out for three points in a game set to be broadcasted live to Mzansi.

Bloemfontein Celtic’s third game of the week sees them pitted against Ma-Indies Ladies who narrowly trail Siwelele in the standings, despite playing a few more games.

The visiting side will be well rested without playing a fixture on Wednesday, however, making the trip from Giyani to Bethlehem will surely take its toll on the players.

Celtic triumphed in a 3-2 win when these opponents met in Limpopo earlier this season, my money is on Phunya Sele Sele claiming the league double over Ma-Indies.
