Former Mamelodi Sundowns attacking midfielder, Gaston Sirino, is on the cusp of joining Kaizer Chiefs after agreeing to personal terms with the Soweto giants. The Uruguayan’s move is contingent upon a successful medical examination, which is expected to be a mere formality.
Sirino, who holds a South African passport, will join Chiefs on a free transfer following his departure from Sundowns. Renowned for his dribbling skills and vast experience, the 33-year-old is anticipated to bolster Chiefs’ attacking options and serve as a mentor to the club’s young talents.
After a successful six-year stint at Sundowns, where he clinched six league titles and multiple cup trophies, Sirino’s playing time diminished under coach Rulani Mokwena. Despite interest from clubs in Bolivia, Chile, and North Africa, the experienced playmaker opted to remain in South Africa by joining Amakhosi.
With an impressive record of 41 goals and 44 assists in over 200 appearances for Sundowns, Sirino’s creative flair and attacking prowess are evident. His arrival is expected to excite Chiefs coach Nasreddine Nabi, who values technically gifted players.
“The focus is on all three lines of defence, midfield and attack,” Nabi told journalists. “But I won’t mention the positions or players because I have to respect my players. I don’t want to have player agents bombarding my phone with messages.”
Kaizer Chiefs sporting director, Kaizer Motaung Jr., confirmed the club’s active pursuit of new signings to strengthen the squad. . “We’re definitely not done in the transfer market because there are some glaring positions in the squad that we need to reinforce,” he emphasized.
