Erik Tinkler calls for more belief from Cape Town City

Cape Town City boss Erik Tinkler says his side take on Golden Arrows in the DStv Premiership at the perfect time.

Abafana Bes’thende started the season superbly to storm into second place in the early weeks of the campaign, just behind leaders Mamelodi Sundowns.

With 10 games gone, they have dropped off slightly, and currently occupy fourth place, but just two points behind the Citizens and with a game in hand.

While Arrows overcame City in the Carling Knockout first round, they have since lost in the league to Royal AM and AmaZulu, and were knocked out of the cup in the quarter-finals, also by AmaZulu.

City, meanwhile, have comfortably won their past three league ties.

Tinkler said in the Citizen: “Obviously we coming up against a team that has always been difficult for us. Even though we have beaten them in the past seasons, the games were extremely tough, and not easy.

“We recently lost to them in the Carling Knockout. But we come at the back of five wins (in the league), so we need to go into this game with a lot of belief. Lots of confidence, lot of morale, but, at the same time don’t show any complacency.”

Tinkler added: “They are going through a period of four losses, so, their confidence and morale is not where ours should be.

“We need to play to our advantage, put on a good performance, and ultimately ensure that we come back with maximum points. But as I said before, it will not be an easy game.”
