Dylan Kerr: The Truth Behind His Marumo Gallants Exit and More

Former Marumo Gallants coach Dylan Kerr reveals the shocking details behind his departure from the Betway Premiership outfit. The coach revealed the tumultuous circumstances surrounding his recent dismissal from Marumo Gallants. In an exclusive interview with Soccer Betting News, Kerr accused the chairman, Abram Sello, and members of the backroom staff of sabotage.

Despite a public appearance of unity leading up to the new season, Kerr’s tenure at Gallants was short-lived. He alleges that the club’s internal politics and lack of support from his own team ultimately led to his departure.

One of the things is that a head coach is responsible for the football club on and off the field. I didn’t feel like I got the support from anybody in the office,”

“I remember speaking to somebody at Stellenbosch and one of the technical team members said to me ‘All the technical team members are behind Steve Barker because if he fails, they are out of a job’,” Kerr added.

“They have to do the things that Steve requires. Look at them, they are in the CAF Confederation Cup and they finished strong last season in the PSL. That is the team of staff that you need, who are watching your back and promoting what you are doing.

“Unfortunately, in my time at Marumo, this time I did not get that at all. My professional ethics and the way I have been taught as a player and a coach – the dynamics were not right,” he stated.

Kerr’s frustrations stemmed from his desire to have more control over the club’s operations, similar to the managerial roles he’s held in the past, including in both stints with Gallants.

This time around, he found that the dynamics at Gallants were different, with the chairman maintaining a more dominant position.

“The chairman appointed me to run the club, but somewhere between the month I was there, things were said and things were going on behind my back. Previously in two stints that I worked for him he never questioned, never asked, he just let me get on with the job.

“But now the chairman was questioning this and that – and my chairman never does that. Yes, he was worried about his R45 million investment, but I felt other people were informing him of other things.

“Bringing different players in, forcing other players out – that’s my job as head coach because at the end of the day I am responsible. I have not had an explanation from the chairman.

The breakdown in trust between Kerr and the club’s leadership ultimately led to the separation. This latest incident marks another tumultuous chapter in the on-again, off-again relationship between the coach and the Gallants chairman.
