DSTV PREMIERSHIP: THALENTE MBATHA INTENDING TO MAKE THE MOST OF BUCS CHANCE

The 24-year-old was snapped up from SuperSport United in January, and after being on the bench for the 1-1 draw with Mamelodi Sundowns, he played the full 90 minutes of the 6-0 Nedbank Cup victory over Crystal Lake and in the 1-0 victory over Polokwane City on Sunday.

Mbatha is expected to feature as Bucs take on Cape Town Spurs at Orlando Stadium on Wednesday.

And speaking ahead of the clash, the attacker explained that he was shocked to be contacted by Pirates – having struggled for game-time at SuperSport.

Mbatha explained in the Citizen: “I was at home (KZN) driving when I received a call from Orlando Pirates telling me that they wanted my services.

“At that moment, I was confused and didn’t know what that meant. I went straight to tell my mother that I had to travel to Johannesburg the following day and that is how the whole move happened.”

The player added: “It was a dream come true to sign for the Pirates because I didn’t believe it at first until they called again. On the second call, I didn’t answer until I was next to my mother.

“I hope to get as much game time as possible because I will be a better player with game time and build my confidence. But I hope to make the deal permanent because Pirates is a big institution.”
