Kaizer Chiefs defender Rushwin Dortley is determined to replicate his impressive club form on the international stage. As Bafana Bafana have already qualified for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, competition for places in the final squad is intensifying.
Dortley, a towering presence in the Chiefs defense, recognizes that consistent performances at club level are crucial for securing a spot in the national team.
He aims to play a pivotal role in reviving the glory days of Kaizer Chiefs while simultaneously cementing his place in the Bafana Bafana squad.
“Performing at club level is key to earning selection for every camp,” Dortley remarked. “You can’t assume you’ll make the AFCON team just because you were part of the qualifiers.
“Consistency is crucial, and your club’s success plays a role too.”
Dortley shared his ambition to restore Kaizer Chiefs’ former glory, a goal he believed could boost his chances of representing Bafana Bafana in Morocco.
“For me, it’s about staying consistent, helping Kaizer Chiefs achieve what they haven’t in recent years, and bringing the glory days back. That will hopefully earn me a place in the AFCON squad,” he added.
South Africa’s clash with South Sudan at DHL Cape Town Stadium on Tuesday, 19 November 2024 provides Broos with a chance to cap off their qualifiers in style, building momentum for the tournament in Morocco next year.
