Amakhosi fell to a 2-1 defeat to Maritzburg United on Saturday while Orlando Pirates, Mamelodi Sundowns and Bidvest Wits all won as the title race was once again blown wide open.

The Glamour Boys currently hold a six-point lead over Pirates while Sundowns are a point further back but have played a game less than the table-toppers.

Cardoso insists though that Chiefs must not focus on the teams around them in the last 10 matches of the season.

In quotes published on Kickoff, Cardoso said: “10 games is a lot of games still, anything can happen.

“We’re not relying on anyone, we’re focussing on ourselves, and that’s the main thing.

“We’re not worried about anyone around us, I think the minute we start worrying about the chasing pack is when it will start affecting us.”

Chiefs play Highlands Park in a Nedbank Cup clash on Saturday but then face Orlando Pirates in a crucial Soweto derby on 29 February.
