Chippa United coach Morgan Mammila unimpressed with Carling Knockout Cup draw

Chippa United coach Morgan Mammila was disappointed with his side’s draw for the Carling Knockout Cup.

The draw for the newly announced competition, that replaces the Telkom Knockout this season, was made on Tuesday.

The Chilli Boys were paired with Stellenbosch FC, but Mammila was hoping for a more interesting encounter.

Reflecting on his side’s opponents for the competition, the Chippa boss stated he would rather face Mamelodi Sundowns or MTN8 Champions Orlando Pirates.

Mammila said in the Citizen: “If not Sundowns, I thought I would get Pirates, if not them, then Chiefs.

“I am very disappointed because playing those three teams at Nelson Mandela Bay, we are talking about more than 30 000 people in the stadium.

“I am one of them. I enjoy these kinds of games, but we are playing against a hard-working Stellenbosch team.

“They work hard and are well coached. We have made it clear that we are not an easy team to play against. Like it or not, you don’t come to Chippa running (blind-folded).”
