Cape Town Spurs have wasted no time in naming a new captain following the transfer of Chumani Butsaka to Stellenbosch FC.
Butsaka, who had been the subject of interest from Kaizer Chiefs, departed the club on Friday. With Asanale Velebayi remaining at Spurs, the 21-year-old has been appointed as the team’s new leader.
Velebayi was handed the captain’s armband by coach Ernst Middendorp ahead of Spurs’ Motsepe Foundation Championship match against Hungry Lions on Monday.
Like Butsaka, Velebayi has been a part of the club since his teenage years. Butsaka was originally appointed captain in late 2023 to replace Clayton Daniels.
