Cape Town is set to host the South Sudan national team as they prepare for a decisive 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Bafana Bafana on 19 November.
This eagerly awaited match marks Bafana’s first appearance in the Mother City in almost ten years; their last game there was a 2-1 victory over Angola in 2014.
For Bafana, this fixture is the final step in their six-game qualifying journey for the 2025 AFCON tournament in Morocco. Committed to securing their place, the South African team has gone all out.
Cape Town Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis encouraged fans to show their support, sharing his enthusiasm for the national team’s return.
“We’re thrilled to welcome Bafana Bafana back to Cape Town for their AFCON qualifier against South Sudan,” Hill-Lewis said.
“Nine years is far too long without a Bafana game here, and we’re making sure this will be a memorable day for fans.”
Hill-Lewis also urged Capetonians to attend, with kick-off scheduled for 18h00. “I urge everyone to come out in numbers to support Bafana as they strive to qualify for Morocco 2025,” he added.
On the logistical side, JP Smith, Cape Town’s safety and security MMC, assured fans that the city was working closely with the South African Football Association, the South African Police Service, and other partners to ensure a safe and well-organized event.
“Our teams are finalising plans with the organisers, and we’re ready to make Bafana Bafana’s return to Cape Town an unforgettable experience,” Smith stated.
Cape Town’s football community eagerly await the return of Bafana Bafana, as the team seeks to make a lasting impact and secure their place in the upcoming AFCON tournament.
