The Confederation of African Football (CAF) awards ceremony took place on Monday evening, in Morocco, highlighting the best talent from the continent. One of the most anticipated announcements was the CAF Best XI, a selection of the top African players of the year.
A surprising omission from the Best XI was Ronwen Williams, who despite an impressive year and winning two awards, including the coveted CAF Goalkeeper of the Year, was not selected for the dream team.
Instead, the Best XI spot for goalkeeper went to Manchester United’s Andre Onana. This decision underscores the competitive nature of the selection process, where players from top clubs across the globe are vying for recognition. The final XI is voted for by players across the continent, adding a layer of peer recognition to the honor.
The Best XI boasts a formidable lineup:
Goalkeeper: Andre Onana
Defense: Achraf Hakimi, Kalidou Koulibaly, and Chancel Mbemba form a strong defensive wall.
Midfield: Yves Bissouma, Sofyan Amrabat, Franck Kessie, and Mohammed Kudus control the tempo and provide creative spark.
Forwards: The attack is led by Mohamed Salah, Ademola Lookman, and Victor Osimhen, promising goals and excitement.
A notable aspect of this year’s Best XI is that all selected players currently ply their trade outside of Africa, showcasing the widespread talent of African players in top leagues worldwide.
