Stellenbosch FC will face a challenging encounter against Egypt’s defending champions, Zamalek SC, in the quarter-finals of the 2024/25 CAF Confederation Cup.
Last night, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) held the eagerly awaited draw for the quarter-finals of both the CAF Champions League and the CAF Confederation Cup at a prestigious gala event at beIN Sports’ headquarters in Doha, Qatar.

In their debut appearance in the competition, Stellies will take on Zamalek SC, the reigning champions who clinched their second Confederation Cup title last season with a victory over RS Berkane in the final.
The draw has placed the Steve Barker coached outfit, who advanced as runners-up in Group B of the competition, in a thrilling clash against the Egyptian powerhouse in the knockout round of the African competition.
The Western Cape outfit secured second place in their group, finishing behind RS Berkane, who topped the table ahead of Lunda Sul and Stade Malien. Zamalek, on the other hand, finished top of their group with an impressive 14 points, having won four of their six group-stage matches and drawn the other two.
The Confederation Cup quarter-finals will be contested over two legs. The first leg is scheduled for 2 April 2025, with Stellies hosting Zamalek at home in South Africa. The second leg will take place on 9 April 2025 in Egypt, where Stellenbosch will seek to advance into the final four.
Further details, including kick-off times and venues, will be confirmed closer to the dates. The winner of this highly anticipated tie will move on to the semi-finals, where they will face the winner of the quarter-final match between Tanzanian side Simba SC and Egypt’s Al Masry.
In addition to Stellies’ big clash, South African football fans will be keeping an eye on Fadlu Davids, the head coach of Simba SC. The former Maritzburg United man will square off against Al Masry of Egypt for a spot in the semi-final of the competition.
