CAF Announces New Media Rights Deals with African Broadcasters

Dr Patrice Motsepe

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has secured new media rights and TV agreements for its 2024/25 Interclub Competitions.

South African broadcasters SuperSport TV and the SABC, along with Tanzania’s Azam Media, have acquired the rights to broadcast these events in Sub-Saharan Africa.

CAF and SuperSport TV have signed a new agreement for the 2024/25 CAF Interclub Competitions, covering the TotalEnergies CAF Champions League, CAF Women’s Champions League, TotalEnergies CAF Confederations Cup, and TotalEnergies CAF Super Cup (2025).

SuperSport International will hold the pay-TV rights (in English), while SABC and Azam Media will have free-to-air broadcast rights.

CAF President Dr. Patrice Motsepe emphasized the importance of these media rights deals for African football development, noting the growing interest from both African and international broadcasters. He welcomed SuperSport, SABC, and Azam Media as partners in this endeavor.

The 2023/24 TotalEnergies CAF Champions League saw a significant increase in TV viewership, with over 25% growth in North Africa and over 40% in East and Southern Africa. Digital engagement also experienced substantial growth.

SuperSport and the SABC previously held the broadcast rights for the Africa Cup of Nations finals in Ivory Coast earlier this year, where Bafana Bafana secured third place in the tournament.
