Despite a 2-1 loss to Kaizer Chiefs on Wednesday night, the Natal Rich Boyz have faced a challenging season, with only one win and two draws in their last seven league matches.
While Truter acknowledges the need for reinforcements, he admits that budget constraints limit the club’s ability to make significant signings. Instead, he believes the solution lies in overcoming a mental block that has plagued the team over the past two seasons.
Truter emphasizes that finding a long-term solution requires addressing external factors rather than simply changing coaches.
“Look, we’re not a bad team at all. I think it’s more mental, in terms of the mental toughness, in terms of where we find ourselves and the will to win,” he added.
“We were so cautious, so reluctant at times to actually go out and attack Chiefs in the first half. But we sat back and hoping to get on the counter. Once you play like that, the fear of losing is greater than the [will] to win.
“And that’s what we’re lacking at the moment. With the results like that, it becomes a mental block. It becomes another obstacle that you have to overcome.
“Never mind the opponent or what they present or the environment. But these are things that are not in football. It’s outside football.
“So you have to look at that. How can we help the player? It’s not the first time Richards Bay has been in this situation. It’s been two seasons ongoing now.
“You can change plenty of coaches, but if you don’t solve the problem, you’ll always stay there. And I think that’s the issue at this moment.”
