A groundbreaking three-year sponsorship deal, valued at an estimated R900 million, has been inked between the PSL and Betway.
The PSL has officially announced a new era for South African football with Betway as its headline sponsor. Replacing DStv, the betting giant’s substantial investment marks the largest single sponsorship deal in the history of South African sport.
The 2024/25 season, set to kick off on August 3rd, will now be known as the Betway Premiership. However, the league’s rebranding process might cause a slight delay to the start of the season. Clubs have been instructed to hold off on using the DStv Premiership logo on their kits until the new design is finalized.
PSL chairman Dr. Irvin Khoza expressed excitement about the partnership, emphasizing Betway’s commitment to South African football and its alignment with the league’s vision for the future.
Betway has hailed the partnership as a pivotal moment, highlighting its passion for South African success stories and its role in shaping the future of the local game.
The end of DStv’s sponsorship, which began in 2020 following ABSA, comes as a surprise given the initial commitment to a long-term partnership. Financial challenges are believed to have influenced the decision.
As the league transitions to this new chapter, fans eagerly await the start of the Betway Premiership on August 3rd, 2024 for the upcoming season!
