With the 2025/26 Betway Premiership season now in its decisive phase, Kaizer Chiefs appear to be peaking at just the right time. The Soweto giants are steadily climbing the table and rediscovering the form that once made them title contenders.
Match: Magesi FC vs Kaizer Chiefs
Kick-off: 19:30
Venue: Peter Mokaba Stadium
Key Storylines
The Glamour Boys head into this encounter brimming with confidence, currently riding a four-match winning streak that has propelled them into the top three. Another victory over struggling Magesi FC would further solidify their push for a coveted CAF qualification spot.
Just a few weeks ago, however, the mood in Naturena was far less optimistic. Amakhosi had slipped into inconsistency, dropping valuable points and struggling to build momentum. It seemed as though the all-too-familiar pattern of recent seasons was resurfacing.
But the turnaround has been impressive.
Chiefs have rediscovered their rhythm and now look like a side capable of competing at a high level again. While catching Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates remains a daunting task, they are still mathematically in contention. With two games in hand, Chiefs trail Pirates by 13 points, while Sundowns sit 14 points clear at the summit.
The recent resurgence has also eased the pressure on co-head coaches Cedric Kaze and Khalil Ben Youssef, who had faced growing scrutiny during the team’s dip in form.
Their latest win against TS Galaxy saw Chiefs surpass the 40-point mark for the first time since the 2022/23 campaign, where they finished with 44 points after 30 matches. A top-eight finish now looks almost certain, an important milestone after missing out in the previous two seasons.

A key factor behind this revival has been the return to form of several standout players, including Lebohang Maboe, Mduduzi Shabalala, and Glody Lilepo. Their influence will once again be crucial as Chiefs prepare to face a desperate Magesi FC side.
The Limpopo-based outfit finds itself rooted at the bottom of the table, with just one win in their last five matches. Time is quickly running out for Allan Freese’s men, who have managed only 17 points from 23 games this season.
Relegation is a real threat, and they will need a dramatic turnaround to avoid the drop to the Motsepe Foundation Championship. However, their task does not get any easier, as they come up against a Chiefs side that defeated them 2-0 just three weeks ago at FNB Stadium.

His ability to control the tempo and link play has been instrumental in Chiefs’ dominance in midfield. The former Sundowns man looks rejuvenated and is clearly enjoying his football again.
Flávio Silva
After facing criticism during pre-season, Silva has silenced his doubters with consistent performances in front of goal. The powerful striker has netted six goals in 15 appearances and remains a constant attacking threat. Beyond his scoring ability, his relentless work rate and pressing make him invaluable to the team, qualities that have quickly made him a fan favourite.
Prediction
Chiefs’ form and confidence give them a clear edge heading into this fixture. While Magesi will be fighting for survival and could prove stubborn at home, Chiefs’ quality and momentum should see them through.
