Betway Prem: Riveiro Exudes Confidence After Soweto Derby Victory

Orlando Pirates head coach, Jose Riveiro, has made a bold statement about his team’s strength following their thrilling 1-0 victory over arch-rivals Kaizer Chiefs in the Soweto derby.

The Buccaneers secured the win in dramatic fashion, with Patrick Maswanganyi converting a stoppage-time penalty after Relebohile Mofokeng was fouled inside the box.

In the post-match press conference, Riveiro hailed his team’s resilience and solidity, noting that Kaizer Chiefs struggled to break them down despite making key substitutions.

“It’s not easy for anyone to play Pirates right now. Little by little, we are managing to put the ball where we like to spend the time. And today (Saturday), Chiefs weren’t able to get there,” said Riveiro.

“With the subs they brought – Gaston Sirino and Yusuf Maart – they got a bit of quality, but we still managed to impose ourselves for most of the game.”

The Spaniard also highlighted his team’s confidence and work ethic, emphasizing that winning the derby is never easy.

“It could have easily been a draw had it not been for Tito’s goal (Maswanganyi). The game was about to end, and for me, the confidence was untouchable and unreachable even without Tito’s goal.

“It’s not easy to play this derby. The hope and confidence is coming from the way we are working.”

The Buccaneers will be back in action on Wednesday when they take on Sekhukhune United in a league match away from home.
