Betway Prem: Kaizer Chiefs receive boost ahead of Clash with Former Sundowns Boss Manqoba Mngqithi

Kaizer Chiefs have been given a timely boost as they prepare for their upcoming match against former Mamelodi Sundowns coach Manqoba Mngqithi.

As the Betway Premiership resumes following the international break, Chiefs will travel to the iconic Moses Mabhida Stadium this weekend to face KwaZulu-Natal-based Golden Arrows.

This clash comes just weeks after Golden Arrows secured a 1-0 win over Chiefs in January, with a goal from Gladwin Shitolo proving to be the difference.

A win for the home side this weekend would not only give them a league double over the Soweto giants but also strengthen Mngqithi’s standing among the KZN faithful.

Mngqithi, who is in his second spell with the club, has already earned respect after guiding Arrows to a notable draw against reigning league champions, Mamelodi Sundowns, in his first match in charge since rejoining the team.

However, the task of securing an upset will be made more difficult for Golden Arrows, as they will be without two key players due to suspensions. Keenan Phillips and Nhlanhla Zwane will both miss the match after receiving their fourth yellow cards of the season in Arrows’ recent 1-0 defeat to Magesi FC.

These suspensions come at a critical time for Abafana Bes’thende, who currently sit just outside the top half of the league standings with 24 points from 19 matches. Chiefs are slightly ahead in 8th place, with 29 points from 22 games.

Arrows will need to find a way to cope without their influential duo if they are to take advantage of a Kaizer Chiefs side that has struggled in recent outings, registering just one win in their last five league matches.

Kick-off at Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban is scheduled for 15:30 on Saturday, 29 March 2025.
