Former Mamelodi Sundowns attacker Abubeker Nasir has returned home to join Ethiopian side Mechal SC as a free agent after parting ways with African Champions.

The 26-year-old impressed South African fans immediately after joining Masandawana from Ethiopia Bunna ahead of the 2022/23 season, scoring three goals in four matches, including a sensational goal against Kaizer Chiefs.

However, the tricky forward suffered a bad ankle ligament injury in a 2-0 win against Orlando Pirates after colliding heavily with Bafana Bafana goalkeeper Sipho Chaine.

Nasir returned to action after a few months, scoring against Cameroonian giants Coton Sport in a 2-1 victory in Tshwane but failed to resurrect his early-season form or cement his place in the squad.

He was subsequently sent on unsuccessful, injury-ravaged loan spells with the now-defunct SuperSport United and Motsepe Foundation Championship side University of Pretoria [TUKS].

Sundowns opted against renewing his contract upon his return from AmaTuks, allowing him to join Mechal SC on a two-year contract as he looks to revive his career.
