Mokobodi was one of Pirates’ standout performers as they edged their bitter rivals 2-1 at the FNB Stadium on Saturday, earning the Man of the Match award for his influential display.

The midfielder, who joined the Buccaneers from Stellenbosch during the off-season, has quickly established himself in Ouaddou’s plans after previously playing primarily as a right-back.

Against Amakhosi, he demonstrated his attacking qualities by providing the decisive assist for Tshepang Moremi’s winning goal. His intelligent movement behind the Chiefs defence created the opportunity before he delivered a perfectly weighted cross for Moremi to finish.

However, Ouaddou’s admiration for the midfielder dates back to their time together at Marumo Gallants, where Mokobodi was struggling for regular opportunities.

“I decided to organise a friendly game for those players who were sitting on the side. I saw a quality, and I was surprised that this boy was on the side,” Ouaddou told the media.

The Pirates mentor believes the 25-year-old possesses the attributes required to excel at the highest level, highlighting his versatility, intelligence and work ethic.

“He is box-to-box; he is somebody who can run distances; he is clever. He can see before receiving the ball; he can score, he can assist, he can recover the ball,” he added.

Ouaddou also praised Mokobodi’s professionalism and character, insisting that his future in the game looks extremely promising.

“This boy, I predict a great future. He is definitely one of the best midfielders in the country,” he concluded.
