‘We have a trophy to win,’ says Kaizer Chiefs defender Inacio Miguel ahead of Toyota Cup

Amakhosi have only just returned from a pre-season trip to Spain where they held Scottish Premier League club Rangers to a 1-1 draw before drawing 1-1 with Saudi Pro League team Al Kholood and losing 2-1 to La Liga side Elche.

According to defender Inacio Miguel, Amakhosi are determined to see off Scottland at the Royal Bafokeng Stadium on Sunday.

Speaking ahead of the game, the centre-back explained that is important to get a victory, not only for the fans, but to help them prepare for the upcoming Betway Premiership with new head coach Fernando Da Cruz at the helm.

“I can’t say it’s a friendly match because we have a cup to win, more for ourselves than for our supporters because we have to redeem ourselves from what happened last season [where they finished the season trophy-less],” Miguel said in the Sowetan.

“I don’t see this as a friendly game, we are ready to play it as a league game because in the next week we start the league, so this is a perfect game to lay a foundation.”

Former Chiefs’ legends Knowledge Musona and Khama Billiat will reunite with their old teammates when the two sides meet on Sunday.

“I know Scottland are a very physical team. They are the champions of Zimbabwe and they qualified for the CAF Champions League, so obviously they will give us some difficult moments, but we’re ready for the challenge,” Miguel added.
