The French Football Federation [FFF] is concluding a deal to appoint former Real Madrid mentor Zinedine Zidane as the new head coach after the World Cup 2026 exit.

Les Blues lost their FIFA World Cup 2026 clash against Spain by a 2-0 margin and have to settle for a third-placed playoff against Wednesday’s semi-finalist England and Argentina.

France head coach Didier Deschamps is largely expected to end 14 years at the helm of the national team after previously confirming earlier this year that he would step down from the role irrespective of his side’s performance at the global showpiece.

According to reports, the FFF are planning to complete the signing of an agreement document with former France, Real Madrid and Juventus legend Zinedine Zidane.

The former UEFA Champions League three-time winner as coach of Real Madrid is set to take over from Deschamps on a long-term deal.
